About The Department

The Department of Accounting was established in 2022/2023 academic session with the new Faculty of Management Sciences and social Sciences. Our Accounting programme provides a comprehensive foundation in accounting principles while offering deep specialization in critical areas like Financial Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, and Financial Management. You will learn to guide business strategy by analyzing financial data, managing risk, and driving profitability.

The curriculum is designed to equip the students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for industry-recognized certifications such as ICAN, ANAN, CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CMA (Certified Management Accountant). Through advanced electives and seminars, expertise are tailored towards high-demand fields like internal controls, public sector accounting, taxation and oil and gas accounting, positioning the students for a successful career across diverse industries.

Welcome to the Department of Accounting, Northwest University, Sokoto. It is my pleasure to introduce you to a department committed to academic excellence, professional relevance, and ethical standards in accounting education.

The Department of Accounting operates in full compliance with the National Universities Commission (NUC) Minimum Academic Standards and the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS). Our programme is carefully structured to guide students through clear academic goals, learning outcomes, course requirements, and graduation pathways, while also providing a sound understanding of departmental administration and regulations.

Our primary goal is to produce well-rounded accounting graduates equipped with strong theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset. We aim to prepare our students to function effectively across all sectors of the economy, pursue relevant postgraduate and professional qualifications, and remain competitive in both local and global environments.

The B.Sc. Accounting programme covers essential areas such as financial and managerial accounting, auditing, taxation, financial analysis, cost accounting, internal controls, and research. Through this curriculum, students are trained to collect, analyze, and communicate financial information that supports sound decision-making and sustainable organizational growth.
