About The Department
The Department of Psychology at Northwest University, Sokoto, is part of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences and offers the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. The Department was established to advance the scientific study of human behaviour and contribute to individual and societal development.
Psychology, as a discipline, focuses on understanding, explaining, predicting, and modifying behaviour within diverse social, cultural, and organizational contexts. The Department’s curriculum is aligned with national standards and is designed to equip students with relevant knowledge and skills for harmonious interpersonal relationships and national development.
The programme provides broad-based training in key areas such as Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Health Psychology, and related fields. Courses are taught by qualified academic staff, including Assistant Lecturers, Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Professors, who are committed to quality teaching, research, and student mentorship.

Vision
The mission of the Department of Psychology is to advance teaching, research, and community engagement in psychology through:
- provision of sound theoretical and practical training in psychological science;
- promotion of ethical practice and scientific inquiry in clinical, educational, organizational, and social psychology;
- research that addresses mental health, behaviour, and human performance challenges in Nigeria; and
- community outreach and professional development that enhance psychological well-being and social functioning.
To be a leading centre for psychology education and research, promoting mental well-being, human development, and evidence-based psychological practice in Nigeria.
