Brief History
The Faculty of Law was established in 2024/2025 academic session as part of the University’s commitment to expanding academic offerings in professional and discipline-based education. The establishment of the Faculty reflects the growing need for well-trained legal professionals capable of addressing Nigeria’s complex legal, social, and developmental challenges within a plural legal system.
The Faculty of Law consists of two academic departments: the Department of Islamic Law and the Department of Public and Private Law. These departments collaborate to deliver a comprehensive legal education that integrates the principles of Islamic and Common Laws. Through this structure, the Faculty provides students with broad-based legal knowledge and skills required for effective legal practice, public service, and scholarly pursuits.
Since its establishment, the Faculty has focused on building a solid academic foundation through the development of curricula in line with the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council for Legal Education requirements. Emphasis is placed on quality teaching, research, ethical standards, and the cultivation of critical legal reasoning.
