About The Department
The Department of Biological Sciences is one of the four foundation departments of the Faculty of Science at Northwest University Sokoto. It began full academic operations in 2022/2023 academic session, initially offering the undergraduate programme in Biology. The department was established to provide high-quality education and training in biological sciences, with a vision of growing into a research-driven academic department that produces competent graduates equipped with the skills needed in modern scientific fields.

I warmly welcome all newly admitted and returning students to the Department of Biology, Northwest University, Sokoto, and to the undergraduate programme leading to the award of B.Sc. (Hons.) Biology.
The Biology programme commenced in February 2022 as one of the academic programmes of the University and has continued to grow and develop in scope and quality. The Department is committed to providing students with sound academic training, practical skills, and guidance necessary for a successful academic experience.
Students are strongly encouraged to obtain and familiarize themselves with the current Students’ Handbook, which contains essential information on academic regulations, programme requirements, and guidelines for Research Projects and Industrial Training (SIWES). For academic guidance, counselling, or clarification, students are advised to contact their Level Coordinators or Course Registration Officers.
I pray that Almighty Allah grants all our students good health, strength, peace, and wisdom throughout their stay in the University and in their pursuit of academic excellence.
