About The Department

The Department of Chemistry is one of the foundational academic units of Northwest University, Sokoto, which was established in 2022/2023 academic session. The university was created to expand access to higher education and promote academic excellence in Nigeria, and the Department of Chemistry was envisioned as a critical component of its Faculty of Computing and Science. A robust undergraduate curriculum was developed to align with global standards and the needs of the Nigerian community. The curriculum was designed to cover the main branches of chemistry: Organic, Inorganic, Physical, and Analytical Chemistry, ensuring students received a well-rounded theoretical and practical education. The Department received full accreditation for its undergraduate program from the National Universities Commission (NUC), affirming the quality of its curriculum and faculty. In summary, the Department of Chemistry at Northwest University, Sokoto, is young but dynamic. From its foundational role in establishing the Faculty of Computing and Science, it has grown into a hub for teaching and research, with a strong focus on addressing local challenges through scientific inquiry. It remains committed to its mission of producing competent chemists and advancing chemical knowledge for the benefit of society.
