About The Programme
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Economics programme is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in economic theory, quantitative analysis, and applied economics. The programme equips students with the analytical and problem-solving skills required to understand, interpret, and address contemporary economic issues at local, national, and global levels.
Through a well-structured curriculum covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, development economics, public sector economics, and economic planning, students develop the capacity to analyze socio-economic data, evaluate policies, and propose evidence-based solutions to developmental challenges. The programme also emphasizes critical thinking, research skills, and ethical judgment in economic decision-making.
Graduates of the programme are prepared for careers in the public and private sectors, financial institutions, research organizations, and development agencies, as well as for postgraduate studies and professional advancement in economics and related disciplines.
The programme was designed to equip students with broad foundation in theory, research and applied economics, analytical and problem-solving capacities and building confidence to address challenges of economic development. It is also designed to widen the knowledge base and enhance the capacity of students to address the socioeconomic problems of a multicultural world through the provisions of training in econometrics, development economics and economic thought. The programme is structured to develop students’ critical judgement, their ability to observe, understand and synthesize data on socio-economic issues based on the principles of economic theory and the techniques of research that will enable them make useful contributions to the realization of the national development objectives.

Admission Requirements
- At least five (5) credit passes (including Economics, English Language and Mathematics) obtained in not more than two (2) sittings in the General Certificate of Education (GCE), Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), National Examination Council (NECO), or in the case of foreign students, their equivalents.
- JAMB Examination results with a minimum score of 140 points and above.
- In addition to the above requirements, candidates applying for the direct entry (DE) admission are required to possess an A-Level qualification such as NCE, IJMB, GCE A-Level, OND, ND or in the case of foreign students, their equivalents. A minimum of merit is required for NCE, 6 points for IJMB or GCE A-Level, and lower credit for OND.

Apply economic reasoning and analytical tools, including quantitative and econometric techniques, to real-world economic and development challenges.

To graduate with B.Sc. Economics, students must have:
- Obtained a minimum of 120 units for candidates who entered the university through UTME.
- Obtained a minimum of 90 units for candidates who entered the university through direct entry;
- Passed all compulsory courses in the programme and required courses;
- Spent minimum of eight semesters and maximum of twelve semesters for UTME candidates;
- Spent minimum of six semesters and maximum of ten semesters for direct entry students, and
- Fulfilled other university and faculty requirements for graduation with bachelors’ degree.
