About The Department
The Department of Economics is one of the foundation departments established by the University in 2022/2023 academic session, with teaching activities commencing in June 2022. The Department is staffed with qualified and experienced academic personnel, including Professors and other senior scholars who are actively engaged in teaching, research, and mentorship. Since its inception, student have enjoyed Department’s strong academic leadership, effective teaching delivery, and commitment to excellence in economics education and research.
Mission
Vision
The mission of the Department of Economics is to advance teaching, research, and community service in economics through:
- rigorous training in economic theory, quantitative analysis, and applied policy evaluation;
- development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills relevant to Nigeria’s development challenges;
- promotion of research that informs evidence-based policymaking in public and private sectors; and
- preparation of graduates for professional careers, postgraduate studies, and leadership in national and international institutions.
To be a leading centre of excellence in economics education, research, and policy engagement, producing graduates with strong analytical capacity who contribute to inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable economic development in Nigeria and the global economy.
