1. Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza obtained BA, MA and PhD History from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and was promoted to the rank of Professor of Social History, in the Department of History of the same University since 2008.
2. Bunza was a Fellow of LEVENTIS Postdoctoral Research, SOAS, University of London, ISITA Fellow, Northwestern University, Evanston, USA, SACRI Fellow for Summer School at Babes Bolyai University, Cluj, Romania, and Fellow, Center of Advanced African Studies, Cluster of Excellence, University of Bayreuth, Germany.
3. Bunza is the author of Christian Missions among Muslims: Sokoto Province, Nigeria, 1935-1990, Africa World Press, NJ, USA, 2007, Gwandu Emirate: The Domain of Abdullahi Fodiyo, 2016, Malam Umaru Raha Yarin Suru: A Biography of a World War II Veteran, 2019; and has Co-edited a number of books and proceedings (such as: The Sokoto Caliphate: A Legacy of Scholarship and Good Governance, 2006, Islam and the Fundamentals of Peaceful Co-existence in Nigeria, 2014, , A History of Yauri Kingdom from 1411 to its Emirate Status, Gaskiya Corporation, Zaria: 2015, Nigeria in Search of Stability: The Role of Religion, History and Language, 2020), and has also published more than ninety journal articles and books chapters nationally and internationally.
4. He served and still serves as External Examiner to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Maiduguri, Umar Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, International Islamic University Malaysia, and Abdou Moumouni University Niamey, Niger Republic.
5. Mukhtar has supervised a number of Maters and Doctorate students to successful completion, and has assessed dozens of Professors and associate professors for confirmation in Nigerian universities and abroad, and serves as Editor in Chief, Reviewer and assessor and editorial board member of different academic journals in the global academic community.
