The Vice Chancellor of Northwest University (NWUS), Professor Ahmad Ibrahim Maigari, warmly welcomed the Honorable Commissioner for Higher Education in Sokoto State, Malam Aminu Abdullahi Iyan Sokoto, during an official visit to the university. The visit, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Higher Education, is part of a longstanding tradition for the ministry to engage with sister organizations and related institutions, including private universities. The objective of the visit was to assess the university’s achievements, identify challenges, and explore ways to partner and collaborate to enhance the quality of education.
Expressing his gratitude, Professor Maigari described the visit as an honor and a privilege for the university. He also extended sincere congratulations to Honorable Commissioner Iyan Sokoto on his recent appointment by the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji (Dr) Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto FCNA, as the Honorable Commissioner for Higher Education. The Vice Chancellor highlighted the appointment as evidence of the Sokoto state government’s unwavering commitment to educational development. Deep appreciation was also expressed for the government’s sponsorship of eighty-five students at the university.
During the discussions, Professor Maigari shared the university’s plans to expand and establish two new faculties – Medical Sciences and Law/Communication. These faculties will offer thirteen undergraduate programs, including MBBS, Nursing, LLB, and Mass Communication. Professor Maigari expressed optimism regarding the success that can be achieved through collaboration with the ministry.
In response, Honorable Commissioner Iyan Sokoto commended the founder of NWUS, His Excellency Senator (Dr) Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for his visionary leadership in establishing the university. He acknowledged Northwest University as a cost-effective institution with state-of-the-art facilities, designed to enhance the learning process. The Commissioner pledged continuous support from the Ministry for Higher Education, in line with Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s administration’s objective of improving education in Sokoto state.
He also commended Professor Maigari’s leadership in elevating the university to new heights.
As a highlight of the visit, the Vice Chancellor led the Honorable Commissioner and his entourage in commissioning the newly renovated Senate Chamber and the state-of-the-art e-Library, both established under the administration of Professor Maigari.
Malam Zaharaddeen Dahiru, the acting Public Relations Officer of the university, emphasized the significance of the Honorable Commissioner’s visit. He stated that the university is eager to partner and collaborate with Sokoto state towards the advancement of education in both the university and the state.
The visit marked a crucial step towards fostering a strong and sustainable partnership between Northwest University and the Ministry for Higher Education in Sokoto State. Such collaboration is expected to enhance the quality of education in Sokoto and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state, he added.
